Prosecutors have announced that a former physician now faces charges for carrying out assaults involving thirty-eight individuals who were under his care.

The Serious Charges

Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham is accused of numerous acts of sexual assault – comprising some against minors under the age of thirteen – spanning the period from 2017 and 2021.

A senior CPS official stated, “Our prosecutors have diligently worked to support a detailed and complex investigation, meticulously examining the evidence to establish that there is a strong case to proceed to trial and that it is in the public interest.”

Scope of the Police Inquiry

These allegations follow what police described as a “complex investigation” into reported sexual offences at two hospitals: the Royal Stoke university hospital and a facility in Dudley.

The defendant is due to appear at the local magistrates' court on January 20th.

List of Offences

Prosecutors outline the forty-five charges comprise:

  • Fifteen counts of assault.
  • Seventeen counts of assault by penetration.
  • Nine counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
  • 3 counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
  • One count of attempted penetrative assault.

Authorities are urging anyone with concerns to get in touch with the relevant police force.
