Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Bahrain, as the country executed strikes throughout the Middle East in response for a large-scale and ongoing assault targeting the nation by the US and Israel.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an vicinity close to the command center of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The extent of any damage is not yet known and the United States has not commented.
Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - which all house American military installations - reported they have intercepted missiles in their air space.
In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence stated it had successfully engaged several missiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the Middle East.
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was targeting US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the strikes on Iran initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.
That preceding assault - initiated at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on areas linked to the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump urging the Iranian people to rise up against the leadership.
In Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israeli military stated it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates stated that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems dealt with the projectiles with great effectiveness and successfully intercepted a number of missiles," the statement continued.
The statement noted wreckage landed in a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, causing some structural damage and killing a civilian.
The US Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
