News has broken that original stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are returning to their iconic characters in the next chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. Production is currently underway.
Lawrence and Hutcherson are slated to play Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the characters they made famous. It is believed their roles will take the form of a future-set scene, given that the main film series concluded with their characters settled into family life.
This represents the sixth cinematic outing in the global Hunger Games franchise.
Sunrise on the Reaping is adapted from a recent book by author Suzanne Collins. It will be the follow-up prequel after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. For this project is Francis Lawrence, who has helmed the majority of the previous films in the series.
The film's story are set roughly two decades prior to the first Hunger Games, centering on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, later known as Katniss's mentor, is shown as a tribute in the notorious 50th Hunger Games.

Meanwhile, Jennifer Lawrence is receiving acclaim for the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson is part of the hit horror film Five Nights at Freddy's 2.
