Seamer Gus Atkinson Compounds England's Injury Problems.
'Major setback' for the touring side after Atkinson leaves the field with a hamstring injury.
The English seamer further complicated the injury concerns plaguing England after leaving the field early on day two of the Boxing Day Test versus the Australians.
The right-arm seamer pulled up with his left leg immediately following a delivery in his spell during the morning session.
The England team reported Atkinson reported "discomfort" and would spend time on the sidelines to undergo evaluation "over the next few hours".
The concluding match of the series in Sydney starts this coming Sunday.
The visitors have previously lost fast bowlers one seamer to a knee injury and another paceman because of a side injury during this series.
A replacement bowler was brought into the squad as cover for Wood.
The seamer had a tough time in the opening two Tests, claiming a mere three wickets.
He was omitted of the third Test, before being recalled for the fourth Test as Archer's replacement.
The county bowler improved at the MCG, bagging two scalps with the ball, and scoring 28 runs while batting being one of only three English batsmen to get into double digits.
Post a single over in Australia's second innings, he came back for the second day's play and removed Scott Boland edging to the keeper.
Yet, towards the conclusion of that over, he bowled a slower ball to the batsman and immediately felt his left hamstring.
Atkinson returned to the side for the Boxing Day Test following his omission the Adelaide game.
