Jurgen Klopp, who left Liverpool in 2024, indicated that rejoining the club remains something that could happen. Klopp, after a transformative nine-year spell that included continental glory and the Reds’ first league title for three decades, currently occupies roles overseeing worldwide football with the Red Bull group and providing guidance for the DFL.
Liverpool won England's top flight under Arne Slot, but many fans holding him in high esteem would embrace the notion that he may eventually return. Speaking candidly, he explained to the podcast host: “I declared I won't manage another team in England. So that means if then it’s Liverpool...yes. It's plausible.”
“I’m 58, that means the choice could be mine later on, who knows. Must I choose now? If so, I wouldn't return. Fortunately, I don’t have to do that. I can just see what the future brings.”
When asked about which situations would need to occur to tempt his return to the touchline, he confessed he feels no immediate pull for a comeback. “I'm not entirely sure, I enjoy my current role,” he said. “I don’t miss coaching; No desire to be under bad weather for lengthy sessions; No need for media briefings four times, three times a week or doing numerous chats weekly.
“I don’t miss the dressing room per se, but sitting in a restaurant alongside the squad having a nice chat, that’s nice. With many victories so there was often a very good mood at the club. I still have Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh vividly recalled to illustrate.”
He commended for his successor, praising him for the adjustments that won the league in the previous season. Liverpool have lost four in a row in every contest after a summer spending spree, yet he dismissed the suggestion that it might signal the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward in Flo[rian] Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if you use the wrong words. He’s an incredible talent. [Hugo] Ekitike, incredible player. This is a well-built balanced team. Fans shouldn't fret about Liverpool, things will improve.”
He shared movingly about the death of Diogo Jota, a 2020 acquisition in 2020, and the effect at the club. The forward died tragically in a car crash alongside his brother in July.
“How do you replace such an individual? It’s not about his on-field talent, his personality mattered. I struggle to conceive the team environment missing him. I still cannot speak properly on this topic. It was an incredible shock for his teammates as well. Not a single person will ever use it to justify results but it is the situation. Being in that space where his spirit remains. Coping with it emotionally is difficult. Unbearable.”
