People have gathered across the country to commemorate 24 months since the Hamas-led offensive on October 7th, 2023, as negotiations proceeded in Egypt over a resolution to the hostilities in Gaza.

The assault led to more than 1,200 people dead and 251 others taken back to Gaza as prisoners. It was the single most lethal day for Jews since the Second World War.

Israel reacted by beginning a defensive operation in Gaza which has killed in excess of 67,000 people, as reported by the territory's Hamas-administered health ministry. Its figures are regarded as reliable by the United Nations and other international bodies.

"The aggressive enemies have caused great damage, but they have not defeated us," Benjamin Netanyahu stated on Tuesday.

He also promised to "realize all the goals of the war: the homecoming of all the abducted, the destruction of the Hamas government and the promise that Gaza will never again create a danger to Israel".

Remembrance Events Across Israel

The Israeli government delayed official memorials until October 16th - after the completion of the Jewish High Holiday season - but events still took place across the country on Tuesday.

A memorial ceremony for the families of Israelis killed in the Hamas incident was organized in the coastal city. Arranged by the victims' relatives, it was televised across Israeli TV networks.

A period earlier, a silent tribute was held around the country.

Ceasefire Discussions in Egypt

Simultaneously, Israeli and Hamas negotiating teams convened in the North African tourist destination of the negotiation venue for a continuing round of third-party negotiations to examine the terms of the plan.

A prominent representative involved in the discussions said that an night meeting of indirect talks began at 19:00 Cairo time.

The representative said the earlier meeting finished without tangible results, because of disagreements over the proposed Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over guarantees Hamas seeks to guarantee Israel does not resume combat after the first phase of the agreement.

He commented that the talks are "tough and have yet to deliver any major advancement," but noted that mediators are making efforts to narrow the gaps between the conflicting groups.

Critical Matters in Talks

  • An enduring truce
  • The exchange of the captives still held by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners from Gaza
  • The removal of military personnel from Gaza
  • Arrangements for assistance distribution
  • After-conflict governance of the area

Civilian Feeling

In Tel Aviv's memorial area that day, young a woman - whose brother endured the incident on the outdoor event, where 378 people were murdered and dozens more were captured by Hamas gunmen - shared: "No place seems like home any longer and until each abducted person come back no one will be secure."

"After we see everybody home again, we can breathe anew. Then we can start to rebuild," she added.

In front of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's residence in the capital, people congregated to demonstrate their support for the loved ones of the hostages. Israel states nearly fifty continue in detention in Gaza, approximately twenty of whom are believed to be alive.

Activist a participant remarked: "We need do whatever arrangement needed for the captives to return. But we sincerely need promises that we will be secure."

Surveys now regularly indicate that about seventy percent of Israeli citizens desire the hostilities to conclude in return for the liberation of the abducted.

Gaza Conditions

At the site of the gathering, grieving people came together to remember the victims.

From that location, the sound of aerial bombardments and explosions could be detected just a brief space away in Gaza, where local people reported the intense Israeli bombardment carried on.

In Gaza City, bombardments were reported in the early hours of that day in the western Tal al-Hawa, area and locality neighbourhoods and in the eastern district of Sheikh Radwan, as well the camp to the northwest.

"Once the night falls, the dread arrives with it," evacuated urban resident a local woman, whose young son was killed by an Israeli air strike earlier, explained.

"We are terrified of the attacks. Throughout the evening we are lying together, holding each other, especially my youngest child who places his face on me all night."

"Constantly we look at the reports to see what happened. And I'm worried that this truce will not be achieved and that the fighting will return to us."

Humanitarian Situation

The healthcare center in Gaza City announced it had received the bodies of several people by the midday, including a trio who died in an Israeli strike in the south part district.

Nasser hospital in the south region of Khan Younis indicated additional dead people had been brought there. An individual was killed by Israeli forces while looking for aid to the south, health workers reported.

The region's health ministry announced a significant number of the {territ
