Zero Kieran McKenna Celtic Talks as Craig Bellamy Pledges to Wales
Ipswich's manager and Craig Bellamy have been connected with the Scottish champions vacancy
The Championship club's their manager says he has had "no discussions" with the Glasgow club about their coaching position, while Wales head coach Craig Bellamy is dedicated to completing his squad's international campaign.
Each have been linked with the manager's job at the Premiership title holders following Brendan Rodgers' departure on Monday.
McKenna's Position on Celtic
McKenna referred to the Glasgow giants as "an enormous soccer institution" but emphasized he is "in the middle" of a "long-term project" with the Championship side.
The 39-year-old took charge of Ipswich in 2021 and guided the team to the English top flight with consecutive elevations, but they won just four games last season as they were relegated back to the second division and they currently sit 12th in England's second tier.
"There have been such discussions," the London-born former Northern Ireland youth international said when questioned about being on Celtic's shortlist.
"It's not something I have given any thought to, or where any part of my focus is currently.
"I have a unique position here at a remarkable club. And we're at a crucial stage of the season. Everything outside of that hasn't touched my radar."
Background and Contractual Details
It has been suggested that McKenna would be willing to talk to Celtic given his boyhood allegiances.
"During youth, we all have our preferences," he said when asked about those. "It's unlikely everyone has to go around and announce what they were, but of course it's a massive football club."
The coach signed a fresh multi-year deal in last year and was questioned about his alleged buyout clause.
"In every manager's contract, there are things," he responded. "I'm unaware what mine are and, were I informed, I wouldn't tell you regardless!
"I tackle this role like I'll be Town's coach indefinitely. I know that's not invariably going to be the case, but I will consistently give maximum effort as long as I am here."
Bellamy's Situation
The former striker represented the Hoops on temporary transfer from Newcastle United in the mid-2000s, but the former Welsh striker is inclined to finish the current global tournament qualification, a stance that would effectively rule out the mid-forties from immediately taking the Celtic job.
The Welsh squad are presently in third place in their World Cup group behind group toppers Belgium and runners-up Macedonia.
Wins over the minnows and their rivals in November would book their position in the final qualifying round, but they are all but assured of making those, thanks to a successful Nations League performance, even if they fail to end up their group second place.
Given his current stance, Bellamy, whose contract expires after Euro 2028, would be unavailable until following the qualifying matches at the minimum.
